Great study here.
Pain is not equal to the amount of tissue damage. (Read it again.)
Another great study proves pain is more complex than simply what's on an image or MRI. Seriously challenge your thoughts — they could be thought viruses.
Take this thought pattern for example: "I have spine degeneration. My back is fragile, so I shouldn't be doing too much." This leads to weakness, which causes instability and likely… more pain.
The thing is, anyone returning to activity after back pain and too much rest will go through some challenging mental moments.
- Have you tried physical therapy?
- Have you tried strengthening your core / abdominal / back muscles?
- Have you tried going for more walks?
Challenge your thoughts!
