FAQ

Can physical therapy actually help TMJ pain?

Yes. The jaw is a joint surrounded by muscles, and it responds to the same things other joints do — hands-on treatment, motor control retraining, and load management. The neck is almost always involved too, which is why we treat both together.

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

No. Iowa has direct access to physical therapy — you can start with us. If your dentist referred you, great; we're happy to coordinate with them.

How many visits will I need?

Most TMJ patients feel meaningful relief within the first few visits. A typical plan runs 4–8 visits depending on how long symptoms have been present.
